R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of Sid Stafford of Hallsville on November 2, 2022, at the |
|
age of 103; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sid Stafford was born to Mae Marie and William |
|
Robert Stafford on July 30, 1919, in Madill, Oklahoma, and grew up |
|
with two siblings, Ruby and Junior; coming of age during World War |
|
II, this courageous American joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and served |
|
in North Africa and Italy as a mechanic with the 755th Tank |
|
Battalion; and |
|
WHEREAS, On June 4, 1951, Mr. Stafford married the love of |
|
his life, the former Nita Waldron; the couple made their home in |
|
Raymondville, Texas, where Mr. Stafford raised a variety of crops, |
|
including cotton and grain, before they settled in Hallsville in |
|
1964; Mr. Stafford went on to enjoy a career with the Jordan |
|
Employment Service in Longview until his retirement at age 62; in |
|
his leisure hours, he continued his horticultural pursuits, |
|
maintaining an expansive garden; a man of faith, he was an active |
|
congregant of First Baptist Church of Hallsville, where he served |
|
as a deacon and as Sunday school superintendent; and |
|
WHEREAS, Valuing his family above all else, Mr. Stafford and |
|
his wife shared a rewarding marriage that spanned nearly seven |
|
decades before her passing; he took great pride in their three |
|
daughters, Beverly, Brenda, and Beth, and with the passing years, |
|
he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include eight |
|
grandchildren, Ashley, Jennifer, Miranda, Thomas, Charity, Rachel, |
|
Caleb, and Chad, and numerous great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Admired for his unfailing optimism, warm and |
|
generous nature, and keen sense of humor, Sid Stafford touched |
|
countless lives during his journey on this earth, and he will |
|
forever be a source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|
hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sid Stafford and that sincere |
|
condolences be extended to his loved ones; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Sid Stafford. |
