R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Shelly Smith has been selected to join Leadership
  Longview as a member of the Class of 2023; and
         WHEREAS, Presented by Conterra Networks, Leadership Longview
  is a nine-month program that provides participants with the
  opportunity to meet with local leaders to better understand their
  community; the issues covered in the program include education,
  community and economic development, health and emergency services,
  quality of life, criminal justice, and leadership development; and
         WHEREAS, For more than two and a half decades, Mrs. Smith has
  distinguished herself as an advocate for children and families in
  East Texas; she currently serves as the director of administration
  and operations at Buckner Children and Family Services in Longview
  and Lufkin; previously, she was the executive director of East
  Texas Child Advocates and worked in multiple supervisory roles at
  the Gregg County Juvenile Probation Department; active in her
  community, she is the president of the White Oak Education
  Foundation and a member of Zonta Club of Longview; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith holds a bachelor's degree from the
  University of North Texas and a master's degree from The University
  of Texas at Tyler; in all she does, she benefits from the love and
  support of her family, which includes her husband and their three
  sons; and
         WHEREAS, Shelly Smith will gain invaluable experience during
  her time with Leadership Longview, and the dedication and
  commitment to her community she has already demonstrated will serve
  her well in this program and in all her future endeavors; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
  hereby congratulate Shelly Smith on her selection to join
  Leadership Longview as a member of the Class of 2023 and extend to
  her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  Senate.
