SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 11
         WHEREAS, Dusty Baker realized a special milestone in his
  epic Major League Baseball career when he guided the Houston
  Astros to victory in the 2022 World Series and claimed his first
  championship as a manager; and
         WHEREAS, The decisive win came in front of a home crowd on
  November 5, with the Astros defeating the Philadelphia Phillies
  in Game 6 of the series to secure the title; with the triumph,
  Mr. Baker furthered his impressive coaching legacy in his 12th
  trip to the postseason, becoming the third African American
  manager and the oldest manager in league history to win the
  championship; moreover, his 51 postseason victories place him
  fourth on the all-time list; and
         WHEREAS, One of the most beloved figures in the game,
  Mr. Baker took the reins of the Astros in 2020; previously, he
  managed the San Francisco Giants, the Chicago Cubs, the
  Cincinnati Reds, and the Washington Nationals; he is the 12th
  manager in major league history to reach 2,000 regular-season
  wins, having recorded a total of 2,093 in his 25 seasons as a big
  league skipper; he has been named Manager of the Year three
  times, and in 2021, he became the first manager to guide five
  different franchises to a division title; and
         WHEREAS, An impressive athlete in his playing days,
  Mr. Baker was drafted by the Atlanta Braves organization in 1967
  and went on to appear in 2,039 games over the course of 19 seasons;
  he was selected to two All-Star teams and received a Gold Glove and
  two Silver Slugger awards; he also made three World Series
  appearances and won the 1981 championship as a member of the Los
  Angeles Dodgers; he retired in 1986 after compiling nearly 2,000
  hits and a lifetime batting average of .278; and
         WHEREAS, With his deep knowledge of the game and his
  ability to help his players achieve their best, Dusty Baker has
  established himself as one of the legendary managers in the
  history of Major League Baseball, and it is truly a pleasure to
  join in recognizing him for his outstanding accomplishments;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby congratulate Dusty Baker on helping the
  Houston Astros win the 2022 World Series and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Baker as an expression of high regard from the
  Texas Senate.
