SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Billy Hicks
 
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  passing of Billy Wayne Hicks of Tyler on January 17, 2022, at the
  age of 92; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Gover Deller Warren Hicks and Hubert
  Hall Hicks, Billy Hicks was born in Lindale on May 22, 1929, and
  he grew up with the companionship of two sisters, Dorothy and
  Glenda; he attended Lindale schools, where he played baseball and
  was vice president of the Future Farmers of America; answering
  his nation's call to duty, he joined the United States Army and
  rose to the rank of sergeant; during his time in the service, he
  was stationed in California, Korea, and Japan; and
         WHEREAS, In 1952, Mr. Hicks met the love of his life, the
  former Sallie Sue West, at an American Legion dance; they married
  the following year and went on to share a fulfilling union that
  spanned nearly 60 years until her passing in 2012; the couple
  were blessed with four sons, Billy, Mark, Phil, and Jimmy, and
  their family eventually grew to include four grandchildren,
  Matt, Alisha, Brett, and Mark Thomas, and seven
  great-grandchildren, Dylan, Brett, Jayse, Bo Thomas, Eisley,
  Luna, and Caleb; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks enjoyed a rewarding 42-year career at
  King Chevrolet, and in his leisure hours, he liked following
  sports, especially The University of Texas Longhorns, the Tyler
  Junior College Apaches, the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers,
  and the Dallas Mavericks; he loved practicing baseball in the
  backyard with his boys, and he coached the Orr Eagles Little
  League baseball team, helping them to win two Tyler city
  championships; he also liked traveling with his family,
  especially to Disney World and Texas Rangers games; he was a
  valued congregant of Tyland Baptist Church and Pine Brook Baptist
  Church; and
         WHEREAS, Although Billy Hicks is greatly missed, he has
  left his loved ones with many treasured memories, and he will
  forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Billy Wayne Hicks
  and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of Billy Hicks.
