R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Country and western performer Race Ricketts has |
|
brought great credit to Young County; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Jamie and Roger Ricketts, Race Ricketts |
|
was born in Graham, the seat of Young County, and he attended public |
|
school in Olney; he became involved with Graham Regional Theatre as |
|
a youth, and he also participated in the UIL One-Act Play contest |
|
and sang and acted in musicals at First Baptist Church of Olney; he |
|
went on to major in drama at the University of Oklahoma, graduating |
|
with a perfect 4.0 grade point average; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2022, Mr. Ricketts won the annual Larry Joe |
|
Taylor Songwriter Showcase with "940," a song he wrote in tribute to |
|
Young County and its telephone area code; the song became his first |
|
release, and it quickly gained popularity with radio listeners of |
|
KFWR 95.9 in Fort Worth; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Mr. Ricketts has begun touring in 2023, he |
|
maintains a home base in Olney; there, he has performed at several |
|
events supporting such organizations as the American Legion, the |
|
Olney Chamber of Commerce, the Olney Recreation Association, and |
|
the Graham Theater in the Square; and |
|
WHEREAS, Race Ricketts is a source of great pride to Young |
|
County, and his contributions to the community indeed merit special |
|
recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|
hereby congratulate Race Ricketts on his career in country and |
|
western music and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Ricketts as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas Senate. |
