SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Dr. Marcelo Cavazos, who is retiring as the
  superintendent of schools of the Arlington Independent School
  District on August 31, 2023, after a distinguished 33-year career
  in public education; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Marcelo Cavazos joined the Arlington
  Independent School District in 1999 as an associate
  superintendent for instruction, and he served as the interim
  deputy superintendent before being named deputy superintendent
  in 2009; he served the district with distinction, and in 2012, he
  was named superintendent of the Arlington Independent School
  District; and
         WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the district developed 13
  specialized academies focused on the areas of leadership
  development, early college education, fine arts, dual-language
  instruction, and curricula in science, technology, engineering,
  and math; Dr. Cavazos has received many accolades for his
  outstanding work throughout his career, and he received the YMCA
  Citizen of the Year Award and he was named the 2016 Texas
  Superintendent of the Year and was selected as the Texas nominee
  for the 2017 American Association of School Administrators
  Superintendent of the Year Award; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Cavazos has also been recognized for his
  service to his community, in 2012; he has served on the boards of
  numerous agencies and organizations, including the Texas School
  Alliance, Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County, and United Way
  of Tarrant County, and he is involved in his community through
  his membership in such groups as the Rotary Club and Lions Club;
  and
         WHEREAS, A devoted husband to his wife, Nora, and a loving
  father to his children, Theresa and Diego, Dr. Cavazos has earned
  the respect and admiration of his community members, his
  colleagues, and the students and parents of the district for his
  diligence and wise leadership as an administrator and for his
  outstanding commitment to excellence in education; it is truly
  fitting that he receive special recognition on his dedicated
  service to the Arlington Independent School District; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Marcelo Cavazos on his
  invaluable contributions to public education in the state and
  extend to him congratulations on his retirement and best wishes
  for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
