SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize Marlin Community Garden Club on the occasion of its |
|
100th anniversary on March 11, 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, Inspired by the Philadelphia Garden Club, Ida |
|
Pauleen Linthicum founded the Marlin Community Garden Club, the |
|
first gardening club in Texas, in 1923; Ida served as the club's |
|
first president, with Mrs. J. B. Billingsley as first vice |
|
president; as a result of their vision and leadership, the club |
|
became a charter member of Texas Garden Clubs, Incorporated, in |
|
1928; and |
|
WHEREAS, Early activities within the Community Garden Club |
|
included educational lectures on garden design, floral |
|
arrangement, botanical histories, and other gardening topics; |
|
the club founded the annual flower show in 1927, and members have |
|
promoted and celebrated local beautification for the past |
|
century; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the ongoing support of the Marlin |
|
community and its residents, the club has continued to thrive |
|
through expanded outreach to engage young adults in its |
|
activities; the club's recent projects include the replanting of |
|
the Falls County Courthouse rose garden and maintaining the |
|
Liberty Bell rose garden and the City Hall garden; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, the Community Garden Club provides the |
|
residents of Marlin and the Lone Star State with lush and vibrant |
|
gardens, and all who have contributed to the garden club's |
|
success can reflect with pride on its long history of service; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Marlin Community |
|
Garden Club on their service to their community and their |
|
contributions to gardening in Texas and extend to all |
|
congratulations on the club's 100th anniversary and best wishes |
|
for a memorable centennial celebration; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the club as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
