SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Lone Star Ques of the Ninth District of Omega Psi
  Phi Fraternity and to join them in celebrating Omega Day at the
  State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, was
  founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University; the first
  Black national fraternal organization to be established at a
  historically Black college or university, Omega Psi Phi
  Fraternity now has more than 700 chapters around the world; and
         WHEREAS, The fraternity has a history of shaping
  purposeful, service-oriented men who seek to create permanent
  improvements in health, housing, civil rights, and education for
  African Americans; in 1927, the fraternity instituted the annual
  observance of National Negro Achievement Week, a tradition that
  continues to be celebrated today as Black History Month; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout its existence, Omega Psi Phi
  Fraternity has been led by visionary and capable members who have
  allowed the fraternity to develop a worldwide presence; the
  Mighty Ninth District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity encompasses the
  states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas, and its
  members are devoted to promoting the organization's mission of
  shaping individuals and communities who uphold the values of
  strength, responsibility, and perseverance and who promote the
  ideals of scholarship and service; and
         WHEREAS, Since its inception, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity has
  been a source of hope, inspiration, and positive change in the
  communities it serves, and it is indeed fitting that the
  distinguished members of this organization receive special
  recognition on their fine leadership and their outstanding
  efforts on behalf of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby recognize the Lone Star Ques of the Ninth
  District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, and extend to
  them best wishes on the occasion of Omega Day at the State
  Capitol; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas
  Senate.
