SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Dr. Wendell Edgin as an exemplary Texas citizen and on
  his outstanding career as a physician, educator, and dedicated
  public health professional; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Edgin is an esteemed oral and maxillofacial
  surgeon who served the nation with distinction in the United
  States Air Force for more than two decades and who has shaped a
  rewarding career of service on behalf of the citizens of Texas
  and the United States; and
         WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan, Dr. Edgin completed his
  residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force
  Base in San Antonio in 1990 after earning degrees from Texas Tech
  University and The University of Texas School of Dentistry in
  Houston; he led the graduate oral and maxillofacial surgery
  program at Wilford Hall as director and department chair and
  served as the special consultant in oral and maxillofacial
  surgery to the Surgeon General, and he concluded his military
  career in 2001 with the rank of colonel and with accolades
  including the Legion of Merit; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Edgin went on to teach as an associate
  professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San
  Antonio, where he served as a mentor to hundreds of aspiring
  physicians and maintained a faculty practice before joining
  Alamo Maxillofacial Surgical Associates in 2006; and
         WHEREAS, An esteemed educator and expert in his field, Dr.
  Edgin has authored numerous academic articles and has published
  extensive research on oral and maxillofacial medicine; he has
  served in leadership positions in professional organizations
  including the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons,
  the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the
  San Antonio District Dental Society; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout the past four decades, Dr. Edgin's
  care and expertise have greatly benefited his patients and have
  earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and
  professionals in his field; his commitment to excellence in his
  pursuits and his valuable contributions to our state and nation
  are indeed deserving of special recognition, and he can reflect
  with pride on his distinguished career and his many
  accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Wendell Edgin on more than four
  decades of devoted service as a medical professional and to
  education in the field of medicine and extend to him best wishes
  for continued success in all of his endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
