R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, For 25 years, Breckenridge Village of Tyler has |
|
distinguished itself as a warm and welcoming community for adults |
|
with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Robert and Jean Breckenridge first conceived of the |
|
idea for Breckenridge Village after their youngest son, Jimmy, was |
|
diagnosed with Down syndrome; they purchased 78 acres of land near |
|
their home in Tyler and took the first steps toward the development |
|
of a residential community that would help provide for their son's |
|
future needs and the needs of other families like their own; the |
|
couple's dream became a reality when Breckenridge Village opened |
|
its doors on April 4, 1998, Jimmy Breckenridge's birthday; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, Breckenridge Village has provided a |
|
safe and compassionate environment for residents and visitors to |
|
grow and develop socially, mentally, emotionally, physically, and |
|
spiritually; it offers residential services that include |
|
individualized case management and 24-hour access to live-in |
|
personnel who can assist with daily activities, as well as day |
|
programs that help participants learn valuable life and job skills; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The men and women involved with Breckenridge Village |
|
have carried out their mission with exceptional dedication and |
|
compassion, and they may take pride in knowing that their work has |
|
greatly enriched and improved the lives of many Texans; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|
hereby honor Breckenridge Village of Tyler on the occasion of its |
|
25th anniversary on April 4, 2023, and pay special tribute to the |
|
legacy of its founders, the Breckenridge family; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Breckenridge Village of Tyler as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas Senate. |
