SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 455
WHEREAS, The modern state of Israel is celebrating the 75th
anniversary of its founding in 2023; and

WHEREAS, In 1922, the League of Nations adopted a binding
resolution recognizing the legal basis for the establishment of
the modern state of Israel as a home for the Jewish people in the
historical region of the land of Israel, including the areas of
Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem; the resolution was
subsequently affirmed by both houses of the United States
  Congress; and

WHEREAS, Ruled in ancient times by the kingdom of Israel,
this region has held a special place in the hearts of Jews for
more than two thousand years; while some maintained a Jewish
presence in the land during the long period of exile, members of
the global diaspora continued to feel a profound spiritual and
  emotional connection; and

WHEREAS, Modern Israel took its place on the world stage on
May 14, 1948, following the decimation of European Jewry during
the Holocaust; the creation of the sovereign and independent
state of Israel provided a legally recognized homeland for the
Jewish people; in 1949, after Israel held its first election, the
United States government established full diplomatic relations
with the new country; ever since, our nations have remained close
allies, united by cultural values and strategic interests; and

WHEREAS, Guided by their own Declaration of Independence,
the people of Israel have developed a pluralistic, democratic
political system, a vibrant society, and an advanced,
entrepreneurial economy; the nation has taken in millions of Jews
from the diaspora and enjoys peaceful bilateral relations with
neighbors in the region, including Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain,
Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, and Sudan; in times of need,
it sends humanitarian aid, search and rescue teams, mobile
hospitals, and emergency supplies to help the victims of
  disasters; and

WHEREAS, Texans cherish a special friendship with Israel,
  and the nation and the Lone Star State have strong economic ties;
Israel is one of Texas' strongest partners for trade and
investment in the Middle East, and top commodities exchanged
include industrial machinery, aircraft parts, and plastics; many
Israeli companies currently operate in Texas, notably in the
  aerospace and energy sectors; and

WHEREAS, Texas and Israel share a profound commitment to
liberty, independence, and economic opportunity, and this bond
is sure to deepen in the years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
