SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Huntsville Municipal Airport, which recently received |
|
|
the 2023 Texas Aviation Conference award for Project of the Year |
|
|
in the local and basic airport category; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Huntsville Municipal Airport is a single-runway |
|
|
general aviation airport that operates more than 25,000 flights |
|
|
per year with a focus on business and corporate aviation service; |
|
|
the airport, with the Texas Department of Transportation, the |
|
|
City of Huntsville, and other entities, undertook a major project |
|
|
to improve the airport's safety and to update its facilities to |
|
|
meet evolving Federal Aviation Administration safety standards; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The airport's 5,000-foot runway has been |
|
|
successfully supported by a parallel taxiway and its four |
|
|
connectors, which link the runway to other areas of the airport; |
|
|
however, the proximity of the taxiway and runway became a concern |
|
|
as FAA safety requirements were revised, and it became necessary |
|
|
to relocate the taxiway farther from the runway; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The construction project was planned as three |
|
|
phases to minimize its impact on the airport tenants; during the |
|
|
first two phases, the northern and southern thirds of the taxiway |
|
|
were relocated; the third phase involved the relocation of the |
|
|
middle third of the taxiway and the relocation of the airport's |
|
|
Automated Weather Observation System; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The success of this project was achieved through |
|
|
the collaborative efforts and coordination of the project's |
|
|
consultant, the airport, and the City of Huntsville and with the |
|
|
continued support of Entergy electric utility, the Texas |
|
|
Department of Transportation, the National Oceanic and |
|
|
Atmospheric Administration, the National Weather Service, and |
|
|
the Federal Aviation Administration; the outstanding efforts of |
|
|
the project's contributors have been instrumental in |
|
|
accomplishing the project's objectives, and its realization will |
|
|
continue to benefit the region and the people of Texas for years |
|
|
to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby recognize Huntsville Municipal Airport on |
|
|
its receipt of the 2023 Texas Aviation Conference award for |
|
|
Project of the Year; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the airport as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
