R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. John |
|
the Baptist No. 2073 in Alvin marked its 50th anniversary on May 3, |
|
2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the |
|
oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas |
|
with nearly 63,000 members in 1,150 courts; CDA Court St. John the |
|
Baptist was chartered on June 1, 1973, and is sponsored by St. John |
|
the Baptist Catholic Church in Alvin; it also covers Sacred Heart of |
|
Jesus Catholic Church in Manvel; starting out with 40 charter |
|
members, the organization has since grown to encompass a thriving |
|
membership of more than 120; and |
|
WHEREAS, Each year, CDA St. John the Baptist holds two large |
|
events that raise money to support various ministries and nonprofit |
|
agencies; at the local level, the organization awards scholarships |
|
to area Catholic school students and helps fund the Women's Center |
|
of Brazoria County, Archangels of Texas, and Military Moms and |
|
Wives of Brazoria County, among many other groups; moreover, the |
|
court donates supplies, time, and funds to a number of state CDA |
|
initiatives, including Habitat for Humanity, Texas Disaster Relief |
|
Fund, and Missionaries of Mercy projects, and it provides financial |
|
support to various national projects and charities; and |
|
WHEREAS, True to its mission, CDA St. John the Baptist has |
|
made a lasting and positive difference in Brazoria County and |
|
beyond, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor the organization on |
|
this important milestone in its rich history; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|
hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Catholic Daughters of |
|
the Americas Court St. John the Baptist No. 2073 in Alvin and |
|
extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the court as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
Senate. |
