Wayne Smith Johnston |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Wayne Smith Johnston, who died on July |
|
14, 2022, at the age of 77; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Wayne Smith Johnston was born on January 5, 1945, |
|
in Port Arthur; Wayne and his two brothers experienced the joys |
|
of a rural upbringing, and country life imbued Wayne's spirit |
|
with a lifelong love of nature, wildlife, and the outdoors; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After graduating from Tivy High School in |
|
Kerrville, Wayne met the love of his life and future wife, Sue |
|
Cunningham; he was drafted into the United States Army during the |
|
Vietnam War in 1966 and deployed to Germany, where he and Sue |
|
married in 1968; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, When Wayne concluded his military service, he and |
|
Sue moved to Lubbock, and the couple earned their degrees from |
|
Texas Tech University; Wayne graduated in 1972 with a bachelor's |
|
of science in agricultural agronomy, and the family settled in |
|
San Antonio; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman and an expert in the science |
|
of soil management and crop production, Wayne led a career in |
|
agricultural sales and owned a tractor dealership for several |
|
years before focusing on the sale of mechanic specialty products |
|
until his retirement; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his many professional and personal |
|
achievements, Wayne was admired for his kindhearted nature and |
|
for the warmth and generosity that he extended to others; a |
|
longtime member of Northwood Presbyterian Church, where he |
|
served as an elder and deacon for many years, Wayne was led by |
|
principles of faith and unconditional love in his daily life, and |
|
he approached his interactions with his loved ones with |
|
unwavering support, encouragement, and affection; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Wayne and Sue's union of 54 years provided a model |
|
of lasting devotion to their children, Jamie and Bryson, whom |
|
they raised by loving example; Wayne's grandsons, Jack and |
|
Benton, brought immeasurable joy to his life, and he delighted in |
|
their successes and accomplishments; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Wayne was a compassionate man who gave |
|
unselfishly to others, and his positive outlook, unwavering |
|
strength, and dedication to his family set a shining example for |
|
others to follow; he leaves behind memories that will be forever |
|
cherished by his loved ones and by all who were blessed to share |
|
in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Wayne Smith Johnston; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Wayne Johnston. |
