SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 660
         WHEREAS, The legacy of a legendary figure in Texas music
  was honored as the City of Cockrell Hill celebrated the grand
  opening of Stevie Ray Vaughan Park on April 22, 2023; and
 
         WHEREAS, Born in Dallas in 1954, Mr. Vaughan grew up in the
  Oak Cliff-Cockrell Hill area and took up the guitar at a young
  age; he soon joined his first band and made his public debut at
  the Hill Theater in Cockrell Hill in 1965; so began a phenomenal
  musical career that would ultimately make Mr. Vaughan an
  international star and one of the most revered rock and blues
  guitarists of all time; and
 
         WHEREAS, In 2015, the City of Cockrell Hill acquired the
  land that had been the site of the Hill Theater, and community
  leaders began planning a public space to honor the late
  musician and to provide a location for local artists to
  showcase their talents; the park is graced by SRV murals and
  includes a stage, an expansive lawn area, and a walkway set
  beneath large shade trees; and
 
         WHEREAS, This beautiful public gathering area is certain
  to be a significant resource to the Cockrell Hill community as
  well as a meaningful monument to a local hero, and it is a
  pleasure to join in recognizing the vision, leadership, and hard
  work that have helped make this park a reality; now, therefore,
  be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby commemorate the grand opening of Stevie Ray
  Vaughan Park in Cockrell Hill and honor all those who have
  contributed to this endeavor for their efforts; and, be it
  further
 
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for the City of Cockrell Hill as an expression of high
  regard from the Texas Senate.
