R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Korean American Association of El Paso provided |
|
|
vital aid to the citizens of Turkey in the wake of the devastating |
|
|
earthquakes that impacted the nation in February 2023; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On February 6, a magnitude 7.8 quake struck southern |
|
|
Turkey and northern Syria, and strong aftershocks continued to |
|
|
ravage communities in the weeks that followed; the earthquakes |
|
|
killed at least 50,000 people and injured many more, and the |
|
|
widespread destruction of property left hundreds of thousands |
|
|
homeless; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In response to the disaster, the Korean American |
|
|
Association of El Paso worked tirelessly to collect donations and |
|
|
raise funds for the people of Turkey; the organization has |
|
|
benefited immeasurably from the contributions of its members, who |
|
|
are veterans of armed forces in the United States as well as other |
|
|
nations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of the Korean American Association of El |
|
|
Paso have helped to ease the burden on a number of earthquake |
|
|
survivors in Turkey, and in so doing, they have set an inspiring |
|
|
example of compassion and generosity toward others; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|
|
hereby commend the Korean American Association of El Paso for its |
|
|
contributions to earthquake relief efforts in Turkey and extend to |
|
|
the organization's members sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Korean American Association of El Paso as an |
|
|
expression of high regard by the Texas Senate. |
