Honorable John Whitmire, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice
FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB611 by Capriglione (Relating to the creation of the criminal offense of unlawful disclosure of residence address or telephone number.), As Engrossed
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
This bill would create the Class B misdemeanor offense of unlawful disclosure of a residence address or telephone number. The penalty would be increased to a Class A misdemeanor if the offense results in certain bodily injury. It is assumed that any fiscal impact and any impact on state correctional populations or on the demand for state correctional resources would not be significant.
Local Government Impact
The fiscal impact to units of local government would be contingent on costs associated with enforcement, prosecution, supervision, or confinement. According to the Office of Court Administration, prosecution costs may increase due to the technical nature of the offense, especially if local prosecutors are not trained in this type of crime.
