LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 88TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 8, 2023

TO:
Honorable Terry M. Wilson, Chair, House Committee on Defense & Veterans' Affairs

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB671 by González, Mary (Relating to a veterans suicide prevention campaign.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would direct the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) to conduct a suicide prevention campaign, establish a website to provide suicide prevention information about safely storing firearms, and collaborate with community-based, nonprofit, or private organizations to conduct the campaign. TVC could solicit and accept gifts and grants for the purpose of the campaign.

This analysis assumes costs to implement the bill's provisions could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
