LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 88TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 16, 2023

TO:
Honorable Bryan Hughes, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1217 by Swanson (relating to the administration of and procedures relating to early voting by personal appearance.), Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

It is assumed that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

There could be an impact on certain less populous counties related to expanding the required hours during which early voting by personal appearance is conducted. Some portion of that impact could be offset by state funds to defray the cost to a voter registrar's county of keeping polling places open, as would be authorized by the bill.
