LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 88TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 19, 2023

TO:
Honorable Senfronia Thompson, Chair, House Committee on Youth Health & Safety, Select

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2237 by Thompson, Senfronia (Relating to the establishment of the child first grant program.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

It is assumed that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.

Funding is not included to provide grants to the Child First grant program. The Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) would require appropriations to actually implement the grant program, but the cost for grant funding would depend on the preferred scale of the program.

Other child and family grant programs at DFPS received appropriations ranging from $4.5 million to $36.9 million for grants each fiscal year of the 2022-23 biennium.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
