LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE, 88TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION
April 17, 2023
TO:
Honorable Ryan Guillen, Chair, House Committee on Community Safety, Select
FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB2744 by King, Tracy O. (Relating to prohibiting the transfer of certain semiautomatic rifles to certain recipients; creating a criminal offense; increasing a criminal penalty.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would create a state jail felony offense for a person intentionally or knowingly selling, renting, leasing, or giving or offering to sell, rent, lease, or give to a person younger than 21 years of age certain semiautomatic rifles. While it is assumed that any fiscal impact and any impact on state correctional populations or on the demand for state correctional resources would not be significant, it would be dependent on the number of offenses committed.
Local Government Impact
While it is assumed that any fiscal impact to units of local government associated with enforcement, prosecution, supervision, or confinement would not be significant, it would be dependent on the number of offenses committed.
