IN RE:	HB4422 by Canales (Relating to a study on enhancing border security outcomes through public safety, technological, and transportation infrastructure improvements near Texas-Mexico border crossings.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), in consultation with the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Texas Military Department (TMD), the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI), and other specified entities, to conduct a study on the public safety, border security, and modernization of transportation infrastructure from Texas-Mexico border crossings onto the state highway system related to commercial vehicle connectivity and Operation Lone Star efforts. The bill would require TxDOT to submit a report on the study no later than December 1, 2024. The provisions of the bill would expire on January 1, 2025.

Based on the information and analysis provided by TxDOT, DPS, TMD, and TTI, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agencies' existing resources.
