LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 88TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 23, 2023

TO:
Honorable Robert Nichols, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1418 by LaMantia (Relating to the route designation for the issuance of a permit for the movement of oversize and overweight vehicles in certain counties.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Transportation Code, Section 623.219, relating to route designations for port authority permits for the movement of oversize or overweight vehicles carrying cargo on state highways located in certain counties, to require the Texas Transportation Commission, with the consent of the port authority, to designate additional state highway routes on this authorized oversize/overweight vehicle corridor.

Based on the information provided by the Texas Department of Transportation, it is assumed any  costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

The bill would authorize additional state highway routes subject to port authority oversize/overweight vehicle permits issued by the Port of Brownsville and the Port of Harlingen.
