LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 88TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 27, 2023

TO:
Honorable Brandon Creighton, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1567 by Campbell (relating to requiring public schools to maintain physical copies of certain instructional materials.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

The bill would require school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to have specified numbers of physical copies of foundation and enrichment curriculum instructional materials to be available in classrooms and school libraries. It would also require teachers to be provided a physical copy of the teacher version of the instructional material, if available. The local education agencies (LEA) would incur a cost to purchase instructional materials, to the extent that the LEA does not currently have the requisite number of physical copies available.
