COST ESTIMATE

The bill would add new Section 661.9125 to the Texas Government Code which would entitle members of the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) to 40 days of paid leave for the birth of a child.  It would also entitle members of ERS to 20 days of paid leave for the birth of a child by the employee's spouse, the birth of a child by a gestational surrogate, or the adoption of a child.  An employee would not have to use all available paid vacation and sick leave before the they would be able to take the paid leave granted by the bill.

According to an email received from ERS, the provisions in the bill should not have an actuarial impact on the retirement system.
