IN RE:
SB222 by Nichols (relating to paid leave by certain state employees for the birth or adoption of a child), Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted

COST ESTIMATE

The bill would add new Section 661.9125 to the Texas Government Code which would entitle members of the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) to 60 days of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child. The bill would require members to have at least twelve months of state service and must have worked at least 1,250 hours during the year prior to taking leave to be eligible. An employee would not have to use all available paid vacation and sick leave before the they would be able to take the 60 days of paid leave granted by the bill.

According to an email received from ERS, the provisions and recommendations in the bill should not have an actuarial impact on the retirement system.
