Pursuant to a notice posted on August 30, 2024, revised on September 10, 2024, the House Committee on Securing Texas from Hostile Foreign Organizations, Select met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Hefner, at 9:03 a.m.

 

The initial quorum call was answered as follows: Representatives Hefner; Harris, Cody; Hunter; Lopez, Ray; and Wilson.

 

A quorum was present.

 


 

Representative Dutton, Jill was also in attendance.

 

 

 

The chair made opening remarks.

 

 

The committee heard testimony on the following items:

Study the threat posed by hostile foreign organizations and related entities on the Texas economy, security, and values.

 

Examine rates of intellectual property (IP) theft in the state and identify the industries most impacted. Make recommendations to better secure the IP of government and businesses operating in the state and ensure Texas remains competitive in the face of economic aggression by hostile foreign organizations.
