Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Subcommittee on Higher Education was held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, in the Press Room at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 4:50 PM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

Senator Middleton moved that the following bills be reported to the full Senate Committee on Education with no recommendation:

SB 2422

There being no objection, the motion carried.

Senator Middleton assumed the chair.

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business SB 1489.

The chair moved that the previously sent up committee substitute for SB 1489 be withdrawn.

Senator King moved that SB 1489 be reported favorably to the Senate Committee on Education with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 1 nay, 0 present not voting, and 0 absent. 

Senator Creighton resumed the chair. 

There being no further business, at 4:52 PM Senator Creighton moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
