R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Richard Cyril Bernal of
  San Antonio were deeply saddened by his death on June 13, 2025, at
  the age of 68; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Joe and Mary Esther Bernal, Rick Bernal
  was born in San Antonio on March 18, 1957, and he grew up with the
  companionship of three siblings, Patrick, Rebecca, and Barney; he
  developed an interest in music at an early age and participated in
  theater and radio programs throughout his youth; in 1975, he
  graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, and he went on to
  enroll in the radio, theater, and film department at San Antonio
  College; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bernal began his career as a professional disc
  jockey after being recruited to a radio station in Tucson, Arizona;
  he subsequently joined a station in Las Vegas, where he spent a
  decade honing his radio personality before embarking on an
  outstanding 30-year tenure at KBIG in Los Angeles; in 2012, he
  returned home to San Antonio to care for his parents, and he worked
  briefly for KONO-FM before his retirement; and
         WHEREAS, A man of many talents, Mr. Bernal played the piano,
  saxophone, oboe, and marimba, and he enjoyed attending live music
  performances, cheering on the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas
  Cowboys, and caring for the wildlife in his neighborhood; above all
  else, he was devoted to his loved ones, which included his sons,
  Benjamin and Nathan, his grandsons, Brandon, Luke, and Leo, and his
  beloved life partner, Sandra Sanchez; and
         WHEREAS, Admired for his warmth and humor, Rick Bernal
  brightened the world for all who knew him, and they will forever
  hold him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Richard Cyril Bernal and extend sincere condolences to the
  members of his family: to his former wife, Ellen McNichol; to his
  sons, Benjamin Bernal and his wife, Lauren, and Nathan Bernal; to
  his siblings, Patrick Bernal and his wife, Elisa, and Rebecca
  Villareal and her husband, Robert; to his partner, Sandra Sanchez;
  and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rick
  Bernal.
