R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Corpus Christi native Justin Lamkin of Texas A&M |
|
University was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 2025 Major |
|
League Baseball Draft; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Royals used the 71st overall pick to take |
|
Mr. Lamkin in the second round of the MLB Draft, which was held on |
|
July 13 and 14 in Cumberland, Georgia; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Jeff and Julie Lamkin, Mr. Lamkin first |
|
gained acclaim at Calallen High School in Corpus Christi, where he |
|
was ranked as the No. 5 left-handed pitcher in the Lone Star State; |
|
Texas A&M signed him to its 2022 recruiting class, and as a true |
|
freshman, he took the mound as a starter and reliever, tallying a |
|
3-3 record and one save; after an exceptional performance in the |
|
postseason, he was named to the 2023 Southeastern Conference |
|
All-Tournament Team; continuing to excel in his sophomore season, |
|
he helped lead the Aggies to the College World Series, where he |
|
allowed just three runs in 10.2 innings; in 2025, he turned in his |
|
strongest year yet, finishing with a 3.42 ERA and a team-best 98 |
|
strikeouts; and |
|
WHEREAS, The highlight of Mr. Lamkin's college career came in |
|
May 2025 against Georgia when he tossed his first complete-game |
|
shutout, striking out a career-high 15 batters and limiting the |
|
Bulldogs to only three hits; as a result, he was named the National |
|
Pitcher of the Week by the College Baseball Foundation, the |
|
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and Perfect |
|
Game; he was also chosen as the SEC Pitcher of the Week, his second |
|
time to earn the honor; in March 2025, he became the 22nd member of |
|
the 200-K Club at Texas A&M; and |
|
WHEREAS, Justin Lamkin's accomplishments on the diamond have |
|
furthered Texas' proud legacy of athletic achievement, and this |
|
elite pitcher is poised for an outstanding career in professional |
|
baseball; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Justin Lamkin |
|
on his selection in the 2025 MLB Draft and extend to him sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Lamkin as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
