R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  passing of Eva Charlotte Hahn of Temple on July 9, 2025, at the age
  of 87; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Jaroslav and Marie Riha, the former
  Eva Karolina Marie Riha was born in Jihlava, Czechoslovakia, on
  February 2, 1938; her family resisted the invading Nazi regime and
  then escaped communism in 1950 by hiding in a produce van; as a
  refugee in Australia, she worked at Commonwealth Serum Laboratories
  and was chosen to help develop the country's first batch of the Salk
  polio vaccine; the Rihas were finally able to move to the U.S. in
  1958, and she became a lab technician at the Southwest Foundation
  for Research and Education in San Antonio; after gaining
  citizenship in 1963, she married Dr. H. Herbert Hahn II; his career
  in the U.S. Foreign Service took them to Cambodia and Ghana, and
  they traveled the world extensively; and
         WHEREAS, The Hahns ultimately settled in Temple to raise
  their four children, Carla, Christopher, Catherine, and Steven; an
  avid reader with many interests, Mrs. Hahn provided a lively
  intellectual environment at home; she was a marvelous cook and
  hostess, and her guests were always spellbound by her vivid
  storytelling; in addition, she volunteered in the Temple
  Independent School District for over a decade and served on the
  city's Desegregation Committee, and she was an officer in the
  Women's Auxiliary of the Bell County Medical Society, the Good
  Earth Garden Club, and the Republican Party of Bell County; deeply
  patriotic, she sought to promote freedom and democracy and check
  the growth of communism; when her children were older, she realized
  her dream of entrepreneurship and opened a successful antique
  business; she also enjoyed working on the family ranch in western
  Bell County; she and her husband shared a fulfilling 59-year
  marriage until his passing; devoted to her loved ones, she
  continued to prepare take-home gourmet meals for her children and
  grandchildren's families until her final months; and
         WHEREAS, Although Eva Hahn is greatly missed, she leaves
  behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held
  her dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Eva Charlotte Hahn and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
  her family: to her sister, Georgina Brand, and her husband, Thomas;
  to her children, Carla Clardy and her husband, James Mark,
  Christopher Hahn and his wife, Sarah, Catherine Prochko and her
  husband, Michael, and Steven Hahn and his wife, Julie; to her
  nephews, John Brand and his wife, Ashley, and Paul Brand; to her 15
  grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eva
  Charlotte Hahn.
