R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Judith Ann Jones Carrier of |
|
Fort Worth on July 5, 2025, at the age of 87, has brought a profound |
|
loss to the individuals whose lives she touched through her many |
|
good works; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on July 7, 1937, in Jefferson City, Missouri, |
|
to Earnest Truman and Ruth Jones, the former Judith Jones grew up in |
|
Houston with the companionship of five siblings, Barbara, Glen, |
|
Patricia, Betty, and Janet; she went on to earn a bachelor's degree |
|
in journalism from the University of Houston as well as a master's |
|
degree in counseling and a doctor of education degree from the |
|
University of North Texas; early in her career, she was employed as |
|
a counselor and classroom teacher in the Arlington and Burleson |
|
Independent School Districts and as an adjunct professor at UNT and |
|
The University of Texas at Arlington; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Carrier joined Tarrant County College's faculty |
|
in 1971, and after the opening of its Northwest Campus in 1975, she |
|
was appointed as its dean of student development services; in 1996, |
|
she became the founding president of TCC's Southeast Campus and the |
|
first woman to lead a TCC campus; over the 16 years that followed, |
|
she was influential in enhancing the presence and impact of the |
|
campus in the rapidly growing area of south Tarrant County, and she |
|
was recognized for her achievements with the dedication of a |
|
library in her honor in 2014; and |
|
WHEREAS, Driven by a desire to help students with limited |
|
resources, Dr. Carrier helped establish scholarships through the |
|
TCC Foundation and the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce |
|
Foundation; a trailblazing civic leader, she broke new ground by |
|
becoming the first woman to serve as president of the Rotary Club of |
|
Fort Worth and the first to chair the executive board of the |
|
Arlington chamber; she benefited dozens of other academic and civic |
|
organizations through her involvement, and her efforts to advance |
|
educational causes at every level included her work as a delegate to |
|
the White House Conference on Library and Information Services; |
|
moreover, she was active in the charitable ministries of First |
|
United Methodist Church of Fort Worth; and |
|
WHEREAS, Judith Carrier devoted her life to empowering others |
|
to reach greater heights of success, and her contributions to her |
|
community and to Tarrant County College will be remembered with |
|
admiration for many years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Dr. Judith Ann Jones Carrier and extend sincere sympathy to the |
|
members of her family: to her sister, Barbara Pulliam; to her nieces |
|
and nephews, Jeb Jones, Ross Pulliam, Davis Bozeman, Lynn Harvey, |
|
Stacey Harvey, Vanessa Jones, and Valorie Hicks; and to her many |
|
other relatives and host of friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Judith |
|
Carrier. |
