R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Edinburg lost an esteemed community
  leader with the passing of Sabrina Walker-Hernandez on July 12,
  2025, at the age of 54; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Curtis and Joyce Walker, the former
  Sabrina Walker was born on January 31, 1971, and she grew up with
  the companionship of three siblings, Yakesha, Kimberly, and Curtis;
  answering her nation's call to duty, she served in the U.S. Army for
  four years; she earned her bachelor's degree in political science
  and master's degree in public administration from The University of
  Texas-Pan American, and she also held a nonprofit management
  certification from Harvard University; and
         WHEREAS, From 1999 to 2019, Mrs. Walker-Hernandez served as
  the CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg Rio Grande Valley; she
  went on to establish Building Better Boards, where she mentored
  thousands of nonprofit leaders across the nation; as an
  inspirational speaker, she presented leadership workshops, keynote
  speeches, and webinars; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Walker-Hernandez further benefited her
  community as a board member of such organizations as the Museum of
  South Texas History, the Edinburg Economic Development
  Corporation, and the Rotary Club of Edinburg, and she also chaired
  the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council; in addition, she used her
  battle with cancer to help others, publicly sharing her journey
  through an op-ed and raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma
  Society; in recognition of her efforts, she received a Jim
  Wetherington Southwesterner Award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of
  America, and in 2023, she was named the Woman of the Year by the
  Edinburg Chamber of Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Walker-Hernandez enjoyed
  the love and support of her husband, Hector Hernandez; she was a
  devoted mother to her four children, Joseph, Nadia, Destiny, and
  Amaya, and over the years, she became a proud "Bibi" to five
  grandchildren, Liam, Austin, Serenity, Avery, and Uriah; and
         WHEREAS, The loss of Sabrina Walker-Hernandez is keenly felt
  by the numerous friends that she made through the years as well as
  by the many people in Texas and beyond whose lives she forever
  enriched; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Sabrina Walker-Hernandez and extend deepest condolences to all
  who mourn her passing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sabrina
  Walker-Hernandez.
