R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Most Reverend Daniel E. Garcia was appointed by
  Pope Leo XIV as bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Austin on
  July 2, 2025; and
         WHEREAS, Bishop Garcia was ordained as a priest in the
  Diocese of Austin in 1988, and he went on to serve as associate
  pastor of St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Humble and three Austin
  parishes, St. Catherine of Siena, Cristo Rey, and St. Louis King of
  France, and as founding pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in
  Austin; in 2014, he was named vicar general and moderator of the
  curia, and the following year he was appointed auxiliary bishop of
  Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Bishop Garcia has held a number of
  leadership roles with the diocese, including vocation director and
  master of ceremonies for the bishop, chair of the Presbyteral
  Council, and dean of the Austin North Deanery, and he served as a
  member of the Diocesan Vocation Team, Liturgical Commission,
  Diaconal Advisory Committee, College of Consultors, and Priests'
  Personnel Board; he left the Diocese of Austin in 2019 to become
  bishop of the Diocese of Monterey in California; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Central Texas, Bishop Garcia holds an
  associate's degree from Tyler Junior College, bachelor's and
  master's degrees from St. Mary's Seminary at the University of
  St. Thomas, and a master's degree in liturgical studies from
  St. John's University in Minnesota; and
         WHEREAS, Daniel Garcia has set an inspiring example of faith
  in action through his efforts to help the marginalized and the most
  vulnerable, and his dedication to the Catholic Church and to his
  fellow Texans will serve him well in his new role as bishop of the
  Diocese of Austin; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Most
  Reverend Daniel E. Garcia on his appointment as bishop of the
  Catholic Diocese of Austin and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Bishop Garcia as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
