R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Mary Barrett Stevens of Austin
  on July 4, 2025, at the age of eight, has brought an incalculable
  loss to all those who loved and cherished her; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Houston on December 6, 2016, to Stacy and
  Johnny Stevens, Mary Stevens was affectionately known as "May May"
  to her family, which also included her younger siblings, Graham and
  Lilly, and her beloved dog, Pete; she attended Highland Park
  Elementary School, where her magnetic personality and her kind and
  welcoming nature made an impression on her teachers and classmates;
  she was a natural leader who readily endeared herself to others, and
  she demonstrated her zest for life as she pursued such activities as
  art, dance, basketball, and skiing; and
         WHEREAS, Compassionate, loyal, and cheerful, with a radiant
  smile and a contagious laugh, Mary made the world a brighter place
  for everyone around her; she was at her happiest when she was
  sharing her favorite things with those closest to her, whether she
  was playing Rummikub and cards with her family, dancing with her
  friends, or taking her loved ones along on her various adventures;
  she enjoyed traveling to new places, and aside from home, her
  favorite place to be was surrounded by her family and friends in
  Telluride, Colorado; and
         WHEREAS, Although her time on this earth was far too brief,
  Mary Stevens was a ray of light in the lives of those who held her
  dear, and they will never forget the abundant joy that she brought
  to them; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature, 1st
  Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mary Barrett
  Stevens and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of her
  family: to her parents, Stacy and Johnny Stevens; to her siblings,
  Graham and Lilly Stevens; to her grandparents, Ann and Edward
  Stevens and Patti and William Holmes; to her aunt and uncle, Maggie
  and Sam McNichols; to her cousin, Juliet McNichols; to her
  great-aunt and -uncle, Cynthia and Peter Sullivan, and their
  children; to her godparents, Emily and William Bellomy; and to her
  other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Mary Stevens.
