R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Houston lost an admired civic leader
  with the passing of Willie Belle Mollett Boone on July 15, 2025, at
  the age of 93; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Florine McDaniel and L. J. Mollett,
  the former Willie Belle Mollett was born in Beaumont on May 22,
  1932; she was a graduate of Charlton-Pollard High School; and
         WHEREAS, After moving to Houston, she met Jesse Ree Boone,
  and the couple shared a rewarding marriage that spanned six decades
  before his passing; they were the proud parents of two sons, David
  and Rodney, and over the years, their family grew to include seven
  grandchildren, Geneva, Sineca, Tara, Naqusha, Michael, Carl, and
  Bernard; and
         WHEREAS, A resident of the Sunnyside community, Mrs. Boone
  was a steadfast advocate for the neighborhood; she became active in
  the Democratic Party, and she held positions at the county, state,
  and national levels, including precinct chair and election judge;
  to promote civic engagement in underrepresented neighborhoods,
  Mrs. Boone founded and served as president of the Southeast
  Precinct Judges Council; she also worked in the offices of
  Congressman Ken Bentsen and Commissioner Rodney Ellis, in the
  Harris County Clerk's Office, and for the Teamsters Union; in
  addition, she was an employee at Praxair for more than 25 years; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Boone volunteered her time in behalf of many
  organizations, including the Missouri City/Houston Space City
  Chapter of the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., and the Barbara
  Jordan Houston Section of the National Council of Negro Women, and
  she was a member of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature; in 2021,
  she was honored as a Living Legend by Commissioner Rodney Ellis; a
  woman of faith, she was a valued congregant of the Windsor Village
  United Methodist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Although Willie Belle Boone's passing has brought
  great sorrow to those who loved her, her life was an inspiring
  example of the good that one person can accomplish; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature, 1st
  Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Willie Belle
  Mollett Boone and extend sincere condolences to her family and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Willie Belle Boone.
