R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |
|
those saddened by the death of Joe Herman Weinberg of Marshall on |
|
May 18, 2025, at the age of 86; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Joseph Harris Weinberg and Nell Davis |
|
Weinberg, Joe Weinberg was born in Kilgore on February 4, 1939, and |
|
he grew up with the companionship of two brothers, George and John, |
|
and a sister, Mary; a member of the Kilgore High School Class of |
|
1957, he went on to earn a business degree from North Texas State |
|
University in 1962; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Weinberg embarked on a long and rewarding career |
|
in retail when he joined Weinberg's, his family's menswear store in |
|
downtown Kilgore; in 1969, he founded Oil Center Uniform Company in |
|
Lafayette, Louisiana, and three years later, he purchased and |
|
managed the historic Joe Weisman and Company department store in |
|
Marshall; he later expanded into ventures in Texarkana and |
|
Shreveport, Louisiana; warm, outgoing, and a natural salesman, he |
|
had the ability to make his customers feel appreciated, and he |
|
brought his sharp fashion sense to each of his businesses; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Weinberg enjoyed the love |
|
and support of his wife, the former Gayle Littlefield, with whom he |
|
shared 65 years of marriage; he was the devoted father of two sons, |
|
Trey and Russell, and over the years, his cherished family grew to |
|
include six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his |
|
favorite pastimes included golf, fishing, reading, and bridge |
|
nights with friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, Joe Weinberg appreciated life's simple pleasures |
|
and treasured the richness that each day brought, and he will long |
|
be remembered with deep affection by all who knew him; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature, 1st |
|
Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Joe Herman |
|
Weinberg and extend sincere condolences to the members of his |
|
family: to his wife, Gayle Weinberg; to his sons, Joe "Trey" Herman |
|
Weinberg Jr. and John Russell Weinberg; to his siblings, George |
|
Weinberg and his wife, Pam, and Mary Nell Weinberg Fried and her |
|
husband, Jack; to his grandchildren, Joseph, Jonathon, Andrew, |
|
John, Sloane, and Shea; to his great-grandchildren, Sebastian, |
|
Jonathan, and Thomas; and to his other relatives and friends; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Joe Weinberg. |
