R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |
|
a close with the passing of Calvin Eugene Grant of Texarkana on |
|
June 29, 2025, at the age of 81; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Claudina and Roy Grant, Calvin Grant was |
|
born in Key West, Florida, on October 9, 1943, and he grew up with |
|
the companionship of a sister, Georgina; answering his nation's |
|
call to duty, he served in the U.S. Navy for nearly three decades |
|
before retiring at the rank of chief petty officer; he went on to |
|
enjoy a rewarding civilian career at Naval Station Treasure Island |
|
in San Francisco, California; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Grant benefited from the |
|
love and support of his wife of 28 years, Geraldine; he took great |
|
pride in his four children, Robinne, Calvin, Jeffrey, and Michael, |
|
and he was a caring stepfather to his wife's two children, Cynthia |
|
and Leonard; with the passage of time, he had the pleasure of |
|
welcoming into his family four grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Grant retired to Texarkana in 1996, and he |
|
became an active member of Piney Grove Baptist Church; he was |
|
ordained as a deacon in 2004, and he further served the church as a |
|
Sunday school superintendent and teacher, maintenance director, |
|
and building renovation advisor; in February 2024, he joined Sacred |
|
Heart Catholic Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his |
|
country, Calvin Grant earned the lasting respect and admiration of |
|
all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature, 1st |
|
Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Calvin Eugene |
|
Grant and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to |
|
his wife, Geraldine Hawkins-Grant; to his daughter, Robinne Grant; |
|
to his sons, Calvin Grant Jr., Jeffrey Grant and his wife, Traci, |
|
and Michael Grant; to his stepdaughter, Cynthia Stephens; to his |
|
stepson, Leonard Hawkins, and his husband, Jerald; to his |
|
grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Calvin Grant. |
