R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
  a close with the passing of Calvin Eugene Grant of Texarkana on
  June 29, 2025, at the age of 81; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Claudina and Roy Grant, Calvin Grant was
  born in Key West, Florida, on October 9, 1943, and he grew up with
  the companionship of a sister, Georgina; answering his nation's
  call to duty, he served in the U.S. Navy for nearly three decades
  before retiring at the rank of chief petty officer; he went on to
  enjoy a rewarding civilian career at Naval Station Treasure Island
  in San Francisco, California; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Grant benefited from the
  love and support of his wife of 28 years, Geraldine; he took great
  pride in his four children, Robinne, Calvin, Jeffrey, and Michael,
  and he was a caring stepfather to his wife's two children, Cynthia
  and Leonard; with the passage of time, he had the pleasure of
  welcoming into his family four grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Grant retired to Texarkana in 1996, and he
  became an active member of Piney Grove Baptist Church; he was
  ordained as a deacon in 2004, and he further served the church as a
  Sunday school superintendent and teacher, maintenance director,
  and building renovation advisor; in February 2024, he joined Sacred
  Heart Catholic Church; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his
  country, Calvin Grant earned the lasting respect and admiration of
  all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature, 1st
  Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Calvin Eugene
  Grant and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to
  his wife, Geraldine Hawkins-Grant; to his daughter, Robinne Grant;
  to his sons, Calvin Grant Jr., Jeffrey Grant and his wife, Traci,
  and Michael Grant; to his stepdaughter, Cynthia Stephens; to his
  stepson, Leonard Hawkins, and his husband, Jerald; to his
  grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Calvin Grant.
