R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of Claudette Cox Jones of Longview on July 4, 2025, at the |
|
age of 89; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Osa and Jack Cox, the former |
|
Claudette Cox was born in Kilgore on July 2, 1936, and she grew up |
|
with the companionship of four siblings; she graduated from Kilgore |
|
High School, and she went on earn a bachelor's degree in business |
|
administration from the University of North Texas and a master's |
|
degree from Stephen F. Austin State University; and |
|
WHEREAS, She wed James Clark Agee Jr. in 1957, and the couple |
|
became the parents of two daughters, Adana and Ami; after Mr. Agee's |
|
passing in 1970, she was fortunate enough to find love again and |
|
shared four rewarding decades of marriage with her husband, Cassity |
|
Jones, who also preceded her in death; the couple's blended family |
|
included Mr. Jones's four children, Jan, John, Jim, and Jerry, and |
|
through the years, she was further blessed with 14 grandchildren |
|
and 26 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Actively engaged in her community, Mrs. Jones gave |
|
generously of her time to the Asbury House Child Enrichment Center |
|
for several decades; she also served as board president of the Texas |
|
Shakespeare Festival Foundation and was involved with the Good |
|
Shepherd Foundation and Goodwill Industries of the Pines; in |
|
recognition of her myriad volunteer service efforts, she was |
|
honored with numerous accolades and awards; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of strong faith, Mrs. Jones was a valued |
|
congregant of Longview First United Methodist Church, where she |
|
served on the board and participated in the Henry Foster Sunday |
|
school class; in her leisure hours, she enjoyed dancing, gardening, |
|
and hosting family gatherings, and she delighted in the time she |
|
spent traveling with her husband; moreover, she wrote and published |
|
a collection of poems entitled Grandmother's Garden at the age of |
|
81; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Claudette Jones is deeply missed, those who |
|
held her dear will forever remember the warmth and kindness she |
|
brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature, 1st |
|
Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Claudette Cox |
|
Jones and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: |
|
to her children, Adana Peloubet and her husband, John, Ami Cooper |
|
and her husband, Craig, Jan Forester and her husband, Sam, John |
|
Jones and his wife, Lisa, Jim Jones and his wife, Vicki, and Jerry |
|
Jones and his wife, Lisa; to her grandchildren and |
|
great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and friends; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Claudette Jones. |
