SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 43
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Scott Zublin
 
         WHEREAS, The city of Austin lost a beloved resident with
  the passing of Texas Chili Parlor owner Scott Zublin on June 7,
  2025, at the age of 67; and
 
         WHEREAS, Born in Austin on May 20, 1958, Scott Zublin was
  the son of Edward and Ann Zublin; he traveled the world during his
  23-year career in the oil industry, distinguishing himself
  through his work with Baker Hughes and as the recipient of an Oil
  Rigger of the Year award; and
 
         WHEREAS, At home in Austin, Mr. Zublin was a loyal customer
  of the Texas Chili Parlor, and in 2002, he bought the iconic
  restaurant, located near the State Capitol on Lavaca Street;
  "Zoob," as he was affectionately known, proved himself a skilled
  owner, paying off the historic eatery's debt and curating the
  relaxed vibe of the establishment, which since 1976 has attracted
  politicians, actors, writers, musicians, and other celebrity
  figures; the restaurant was featured in director Quentin
  Tarantino's 2007 movie Death Proof, earning a film credit for
  Mr. Zublin; he also appeared on The Texas Bucket List show, and
  in 2018, the parlor drew praise on the Food Network series The
  Grill Dads; and
 
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Zublin benefited from
  the love and support of his family, which included his siblings
  and a host of nieces and nephews; moreover, he adored his beloved
  dog, Petey; he collected motor vehicles, and he loved riding his
  Harley-Davidson motorcycle on annual trips to Sturgis, South
  Dakota; further, he was an avid sports fan, especially of teams
  competing for The University of Texas at Austin; and
 
         WHEREAS, Scott Zublin earned the admiration of all who knew
  him, not only for his success as a restaurateur but also for his
  generous spirit and joyous zest for life, and he leaves behind a
  legacy that will resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be
  it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Scott Zublin and extend deepest condolences to the members of
  his family: to his siblings and their spouses, Catherine Zublin
  and Edward Spangler, David and Donna Zublin, and Jeanne Marie and
  W. Mark Dicks; to his nephews and nieces and their spouses, Noah
  and Janice Spangler, Ethan and Morgan Spangler, Dylan and Nicole
  Zublin, Jessica and David Lewis, Kristen and Talia Zublin, and W.
  Austin and Allison Dicks; to his great-nephews and great-nieces,
  Walter, Ethan, Emma, and Luke Zublin, Olivia, Elijah, and Hannah
  Spangler, and George and Edward Lewis; and to his other relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of Scott Zublin.
