R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort
  those saddened by the death of Harold Edgar Raines of Marshall on
  June 26, 2025, at the age of 98; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Hoyt and Lillian Raines, Harold Raines
  was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on August 25, 1926, and grew up with
  the company of two younger brothers, Charles and Quinton; he became
  captain of the ROTC at Fair Park High School in Shreveport,
  Louisiana, and during World War II, he served as a U.S. Navy
  signalman on a submarine chaser; after demobilization, he attended
  Centenary College of Louisiana and Louisiana Tech University; he
  was called up from the reserve during the Korean War and served on
  Admiral Espy's staff during the Inchon landing; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Raines returned to Shreveport and worked in
  banking, and in the early 1960s, he moved to Marshall; he was
  employed for more than 30 years at the Marshall Mill & Elevator
  Company and rose to become sales manager; he benefited his fellow
  citizens as a member of myriad organizations, including the Rotary
  Club, local chambers of commerce and the historical society, and
  the boards of the Twelve Way Foundation and Friends of Caddo Lake
  National Wildlife Refuge; among other leadership roles, he was
  district governor of the Lions Club and chair of Wonderland of
  Lights and the FireAnt Festival; a man of faith, he was a member of
  the board of First Methodist Church, where he also served as a
  Sunday school teacher and Stephen minister; moreover, he was
  scoutmaster of Troop 239 for almost three decades and helped many
  boys attain the rank of Eagle Scout, and he received one of
  scouting's highest honors, the Silver Beaver Award; his accolades
  further included recognition as Marshall Citizen of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, In 1954, Mr. Raines married the former Esther
  Westmoreland, and they were blessed with two daughters, Carole and
  Kathy; through the years, he knew the joy of becoming a proud
  grandfather and great-grandfather; he and his wife shared a
  fulfilling relationship of more than 50 years until her passing;
  fortunate enough to find love a second time, he wed Betty Monigold,
  and they were active together in church and civic life; she preceded
  him in death, as did a grandson, Brandon Collier; and
         WHEREAS, Although Harold Raines is deeply missed by those he
  left behind, they will treasure their memories of his sweet nature,
  sense of fun, and great devotion to his family, his faith, and his
  community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature, 1st
  Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Harold Edgar
  Raines and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
  his daughters, Carole Raines Collier and Kathy Raines Gillespie; to
  his three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and to his
  many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Harold Raines.
