R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Tommy Aldridge, former head coach of the Longview |
|
High School girls' basketball team, has been inducted into the |
|
Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the Class |
|
of 2025; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1978, Coach Aldridge founded the Longview girls' |
|
basketball program; over the course of his exceptional tenure at |
|
the helm of the team, he racked up more than 900 victories while |
|
directing the Lady Lobos to 25 district championships, 16 regional |
|
appearances, and three trips to the state tournament; the high |
|
point of his career came in 1984, when he led Longview to a state |
|
title, capping a perfect 39-0 season; the Lady Lobos only missed the |
|
playoffs twice during his 32-year stay, and he won 30 games or more |
|
in 19 of his campaigns at Longview; and |
|
WHEREAS, Coach Aldridge also enjoyed great success as head |
|
coach at his high school alma mater, Union Grove, where he went |
|
59-33 over three years; remarkably, he achieved a winning record in |
|
each of his 35 total seasons as a head coach, compiling an |
|
outstanding overall mark of 967-213; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his dedicated efforts, Tommy Aldridge has |
|
furthered the proud tradition of athletic excellence that has long |
|
been a hallmark of the Lone Star State, and he is indeed deserving |
|
of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature, 1st |
|
Called Session, hereby congratulate Tommy Aldridge on his induction |
|
into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame and extend to him |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Coach Aldridge as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas Senate. |
