CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, Children's Emergency Relief International hosted a |
|
dedication ceremony on August 15, 2025, for the naming of its new |
|
Austin headquarters in honor of former Texas state representative |
|
George Malcolm Cowden; and |
|
WHEREAS, CERI partners with communities and governments |
|
around the world to meet the basic needs of children by providing |
|
them with food, clean water, and safe homes; furthermore, the |
|
nonprofit supports families and individuals through such |
|
initiatives as counseling, educational programs, life skills |
|
training, and women's empowerment classes; and |
|
WHEREAS, George Cowden achieved great distinction during his |
|
years of service to the State of Texas; earning widespread respect |
|
in a variety of roles, he held elected office in the Texas House of |
|
Representatives from 1963 to 1966, served as first assistant |
|
attorney general, and chaired the Texas Board of Insurance and the |
|
Public Utility Commission of Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following his graduation from Baylor University Law |
|
School, Mr. Cowden went on to become a trustee at his alma mater as |
|
well as director of the Baptist Foundation of Texas; he is a |
|
longtime resident of Austin, where he distinguished himself through |
|
his work at the Naman, Howell, Smith and Lee law firm; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, faith, and principled |
|
leadership, George Cowden has long embodied the highest ideals of |
|
public service, and the naming of this CERI facility in his honor |
|
represents a fitting tribute to his exceptional record of |
|
achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas, |
|
2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the dedication of the |
|
Children's Emergency Relief International George M. Cowden |
|
Building and extend to Mr. Cowden sincere appreciation for his |
|
myriad contributions to his fellow citizens; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for George Cowden as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
