R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
  the passing of Chloe Madeline Childress of Houston, who was
  tragically lost in the July 4, 2025, flooding in Kerr County; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Wendie and Matthew Childress, Chloe
  Childress was born on October 3, 2006, and she enjoyed the
  companionship of her brother, Jack; she was 18 years old at the time
  of her passing; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of The Kinkaid School in Houston,
  Ms. Childress was an exceptional student and a leader among her
  peers; during her time in high school, she served as co-president of
  the Honor Council, and she was a member of the Student Wellbeing
  Advisory Board, Model United Nations, Psychology Club, One Love
  Club, Young Alumni Committee, Kinkaid Young Life, the National
  Chinese Honor Society, and the Leadership Honors Program; she
  further distinguished herself as a dedicated athlete on the cross
  country, cheerleading, lacrosse, and tennis teams; and
         WHEREAS, Among her many achievements, Ms. Childress was
  recognized through the Visual and Performing Arts Honors Program in
  Photography, and she received multiple Scholastic Arts and Writing
  Awards; she hoped to one day become a doctor, and she completed a
  number of medical internships and attended the Vanderbilt Summer
  Academy for gifted students; she was recently accepted to The
  University of Texas at Austin, where she planned to follow a pre-med
  track; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Childress was the founder of the Love Our Senior
  Citizens Club at The Kinkaid School, and she further served her
  community by volunteering with The Brookwood Community, the Houston
  Food Bank, Memorial Park Conservatory, and the Leukemia and
  Lymphoma Society; in addition, she attended Camp Mystic in Hunt for
  10 consecutive years, and this past summer, she enthusiastically
  returned to the camp as a counselor; she spent her final days there
  caring for the young campers; and
         WHEREAS, Chloe Childress set an inspiring example through the
  passion, determination, and joyful spirit that she brought to her
  every endeavor, and although tragedy has deprived the world of her
  promise, she will forever hold a special place in the hearts of
  those she leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Chloe Madeline Childress and extend heartfelt sympathy to the
  members of her family:  to her parents, Wendie Seale Childress and
  Matthew Benton Childress; to her brother, John "Jack" Oxford
  Childress; to her maternal grandparents, Joan and James Seale; to
  her paternal grandparents, Cile and Chuck Childress; and to her
  other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Chloe
  Childress.
