R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly |
|
|
cause for celebration, and Alicia Canales Gonzalez of Hebbronville |
|
|
marked this momentous milestone in her life on March 26, 2025; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born in Hebbronville in 1925, the former Alicia |
|
|
Canales is the daughter of Santos Canales and Amalia Ramos Canales, |
|
|
and she grew up as the 9th of 11 children; in 1949, she married Jose |
|
|
"Joe" G. Gonzalez, and they were blessed with two daughters, Irma |
|
|
Alicia and Linda Jo; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Gonzalez has earned the admiration of her |
|
|
fellow citizens through her contributions to the community; |
|
|
following her husband's death in 1982, she was appointed to |
|
|
complete his fifth term in office as Jim Hogg County treasurer and |
|
|
served for more than six months; a devout Catholic, she is a |
|
|
lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Parish, and she |
|
|
was active with the Mother's Club, which assisted with children's |
|
|
activities at the Little Flower School; she has also served in the |
|
|
Sociedad Guadalupanas, Secular Franciscan Order, and Sociedad |
|
|
Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez; in addition, she enjoyed participating |
|
|
in the folklórico dance group at the Jim Hogg County Nutrition |
|
|
Center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Gonzalez is the treasured matriarch of a |
|
|
fine family that has grown to include four grandchildren, |
|
|
Fortunato, Gerardo, JoAnn, and Susana, as well as six |
|
|
great-grandchildren, Emilio, Lucas, Joe, Shayla, Trisha, and |
|
|
JoDee, and a great-great-grandson, Kenneth; witty and charming, she |
|
|
has always been a source of joy for friends and relatives alike; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Blessed with the affection of a host of loved ones |
|
|
and sustained by her strong faith, Alicia Gonzalez has gracefully |
|
|
reached the century mark and continues to enrich the lives of all |
|
|
who are fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Alicia |
|
|
Canales Gonzalez on the joyous occasion of her 100th birthday and |
|
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be |
|
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mrs. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
