R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Cathedral High School in El Paso is celebrating its
  100th anniversary in 2025; and
         WHEREAS, Founded by the Brothers of the Christian Schools
  Catholic teaching order, Cathedral High School opened its doors on
  September 8, 1925, under the leadership of Principal Brother Ernest
  Cocagne, Brother Edward Bernard, and Brother Charles Frieden; by
  1933, the school's enrollment had grown from 45 to 200 students, and
  it continued to operate out of the El Paso Community Center
  alongside a separate grade school until acquiring sole use of the
  facility in 1940; and
         WHEREAS, Cathedral experienced significant financial decline
  during the 1960s, leading the Brothers of the Christian Schools to
  order the departure of its members; despite the directive, Brothers
  Stephen Tessandier and Amedy Long, as well as many others, chose to
  stay and revitalize the school alongside Bishop Sidney Metzger and
  a dedicated coalition of parents, alumni, and community members;
  their efforts were successful, and by the 1980s, the institution
  was the only all-boys private religious school remaining in El
  Paso; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of the ensuing decades, Cathedral
  developed a reputation for academic excellence through an
  innovative dual-enrollment program and a variety of educational
  partnerships; today, the school is part of the Roman Catholic
  Diocese of El Paso, and it offers an integrative science,
  technology, religion, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STREAM)
  curriculum while continuing to uphold its proud tradition of
  Lasallian education, which emphasizes each student's cultural,
  intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual development; the
  institution benefits from the able leadership of principal Adolfo
  Sanchez, and its efforts are further supported by its alumni
  association, which raises scholarship funds for current students
  and organizes alumni gatherings; and
         WHEREAS, For the past century, Cathedral High School has
  provided generations of students with a strong foundation on which
  to build productive and fulfilling lives, and it is a pleasure to
  join in marking this special milestone in its history; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th
  anniversary of Cathedral High School and extend to all those
  affiliated with the institution sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
