R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Juan in a Million is celebrating its 45th |
|
|
anniversary in 2025, and this occasion offers a welcome opportunity |
|
|
to reflect on the history of this popular East Austin eatery; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1980, Juan in a Million was established by Laredo |
|
|
natives Juan and Myrna Meza; although they were teachers by trade, |
|
|
the couple opened the business on East Cesar Chavez Street, and it |
|
|
has since gone on to delight generations of diners with its warm |
|
|
hospitality and Tex-Mex favorites, such as enchiladas, menudo, and |
|
|
huevos rancheros; breakfast is served all day, and patrons from |
|
|
across the Lone Star State have enjoyed the restaurant's signature |
|
|
dish, the famous Don Juan Taco; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Known for his hearty handshake, Mr. Meza has greeted |
|
|
customers at the front door for years; today, Juan in a Million |
|
|
benefits from the leadership of Mr. and Mrs. Meza's children, |
|
|
general manager Juan Meza Jr. and media relations manager Christina |
|
|
Kim; moreover, the restaurant contributes to the community through |
|
|
its annual Hole in Juan Golf Tournament, which fundraises for area |
|
|
students; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of four and a half decades, Juan in a |
|
|
Million has gained a loyal following and has established itself as a |
|
|
local institution, and it is a pleasure to recognize the restaurant |
|
|
and the reputation for excellence that it has achieved; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 45th |
|
|
anniversary of Juan in a Million and extend to all those associated |
|
|
with the restaurant sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Juan in a Million as an expression of high regard by |
|
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
