                   WHEREAS, Residents of San Antonio are mourning the loss of  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            Amparo Hurtado Ortiz, a beloved figure in local broadcasting, who  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            passed away on August 4, 2025, at the age of 81; and | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   WHEREAS, The daughter of Jorge Hurtado Camacho and Soledad  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            Trujillo Ramirez, the former Maria Amparo Hurtado was born on  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            August 1, 1944, in Armenia, Colombia, and she was among the eldest  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            of her nine siblings; she graduated from high school and earned a  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            college degree in Armenia and later moved to Bogotá, where she  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            majored in business administration at the Universidad Nacional de  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            Colombia; she then studied English and the arts in Saltillo,  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            Mexico, before arriving in San Antonio to attend Our Lady of the  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            Lake University; and | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   WHEREAS, Mrs. Ortiz enjoyed a rewarding career in radio and  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            TV, starting with her first job as community relations director for  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            KSAH Radio Festival; she then joined Univision KWEX-TV as  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            promotions manager and community affairs director; she was best  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            known for her long-running talk show, Desde San Antonio, in which  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            she interviewed politicians, actors, singers, and other public  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            figures; passionate about education, a segment of her program  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            spotlighted outstanding local students each week; one of her  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            proudest accomplishments was when she helped ensure that  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            presidential speeches are broadcast with Spanish translations; and | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   WHEREAS, Actively engaged in her community, Mrs. Ortiz  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            served on numerous boards, and she was a member of such institutions  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            as the Children's Defense Fund, the San Antonio Performing Arts  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            Association, and the San Antonio Teen Pregnancy Prevention Center;  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            in 1992, she was inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            for her work in communications; she received many other accolades,  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            including Small Business Journalist Advocate of the Year from  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            Governor Rick Perry and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Nissan;  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            and | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Ortiz was blessed with  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            the love and support of her husband, Lorenzo, with whom she shared a  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            fulfilling marriage of more than 50 years until his passing in 2023;  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            she took great pride in their three children, Edward, Mark, and  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            Stephanie, and her treasured family eventually grew to include a  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            granddaughter, Kayla; a woman of deep faith, she was a longtime  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            parishioner of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church; and | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   WHEREAS, Amparo Ortiz lived a life that was rich in personal  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            and professional achievements, and she leaves behind a legacy that  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            will continue to resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            of Amparo Hurtado Ortiz and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            mourn her passing; and, be it further | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
                   RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Amparo  | 
         
         
            | 
                
			 | 
            Ortiz. |
