R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of Healthy Resources for Displaced |
|
Children (HEARD), a student-run nonprofit based in Cedar Park, have |
|
distinguished themselves through their efforts to aid flood victims |
|
in Williamson County; and |
|
WHEREAS, The young Texans involved in HEARD demonstrated |
|
exceptional initiative by raising $2,000 for flood victims and by |
|
providing in-kind donations to Operation Liberty Hill and the |
|
American Red Cross; and |
|
WHEREAS, HEARD traces its origins to 2021, when its primary |
|
founder, Nikhil Parida, was inspired to establish an organization |
|
that serves children of refugee and immigrant families who are |
|
facing displacement; the nonprofit provides a range of resources |
|
that promote physical and mental well-being, including |
|
opportunities to engage in a variety of indoor and outdoor |
|
activities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Among its many achievements, HEARD has received two |
|
Outstanding Community Resource Awards from the Texas Council of |
|
Child Welfare Boards, one at the state level as well as another at |
|
the regional level; in addition, the nonprofit was honored with a |
|
special recognition from Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan in 2023, and |
|
a number of its members were presented with Presidential Volunteer |
|
Service Awards in 2022; and |
|
WHEREAS, By dedicating time and resources to help those in |
|
need, the members of HEARD have set an inspiring example of |
|
community service, and they are indeed deserving of special |
|
recognition for their contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Healthy Resources |
|
for Displaced Children for its efforts to assist flood victims in |
|
Williamson County and extend to all those affiliated with the |
|
organization sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for HEARD as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
