R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Phillis |
|
Hastings Townes of Detroit, who passed away on March 8, 2025, at the |
|
age of 75; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Clarksville on September 14, 1949, to Coy |
|
and Juanita Lee Hastings, the former Phillis Hastings grew up with |
|
the companionship of three brothers, James, Ray, and Bobby; and |
|
WHEREAS, A skilled businesswoman, Mrs. Townes was |
|
instrumental in the development of Townes Telecommunications; she |
|
also owned Henry's Produce in Clarksville and was a homemaker; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Townes enjoyed the love |
|
and support of her husband, Larry Townes, with whom she shared a |
|
fulfilling marriage of nearly six decades; she took great pride in |
|
their two children, Darla and Glenn, who preceded his mother in |
|
death; with the passing years, she had the pleasure of seeing her |
|
treasured family grow to include three grandchildren, Walker, |
|
Connor, and Dalton; an avid traveler, she especially enjoyed |
|
visiting Germany; she was also a woman of deep faith; and |
|
WHEREAS, Admired for her generosity and strength of |
|
character, Phillis Townes brightened the world for all who knew |
|
her, and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature, 2nd |
|
Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Phillis Hastings |
|
Townes and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: |
|
to her husband, Larry Townes; to her daughter, Darla Townes |
|
Bridges; to her brothers, James Hastings and his wife, Jan, Ray |
|
Hastings, and Bobby Hastings and his wife, Kim; to her grandsons, |
|
Walker Townes, Connor Bridges, and Dalton Buchhorn; and to her |
|
other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Phillis Townes. |
